Matthew Scott trained at Guildhall School and City University London, Berlin Akademie der Kunste and in New York (as Music Assistant to Lotte Lenya).

Matthew Scott has written music for many plays including premieres by Alan Bennett, Richard Bean, Harold Pinter, Mark Ravenhill, and Howard Barker. He was a member of cult systems band The Lost Jocky, and has produced Trans Global Underground, Antony and the Johnsons and Martha Wainwright. His orchestral version of 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' was premiered by the London Sinfonietta at the Milan Festival in 2007, sung by Jarvis Cocker, Marianne Faithfull and others. He is Head of Music at the NT, an Associate of Chichester Festival Theatre, Honorary Vice President of the Chichester City Band and Professor of Composition at Southampton University.
